Alley's career spanned nearly five decades and included several starring roles in Hollywood blockbusters. She was born in Wichita, Kansas, in 1951. She attended the Kansas State University before dropping out to pursue her acting career full-time. In 1987, at age 36, she was cast as the lead in the hit sitcom Cheers from 1987-1993 which aired for seven years on NBC before being syndicated internationally for another eight years by Columbia TriStar Television (1994-2002).

Kirstie Betty Alley is best known for her role as Rebecca Howe in the NBC sitcom Cheers, which earned her six Emmy Award nominations, two Golden Globe nominations and two additional Emmy Awards.

She received further recognition for appearing in films such as Look Who's Talking (1989) and I Love You to Death (1990). She also starred in several movies that were commercial failures at the box office but gained cult status through home video releases, such as Look Who's Talking Now! (1993) and It Takes Two (1995).

She was 71 years old.

Born Kirstie Anne Alley on January 12th, 1951 in Wichita, Kansas to parents Robert A. "Bob" and Lela Eileen (née Bienvenu) Alley, she moved with her family to San Diego when she was young. After taking up ballet at 10 years old and moving around for a few years, they finally settled in Menlo Park where she attended high school at Menlo-Atherton High School before graduating early at age 16. She went on to pursue acting professionally while still living in California until 1970 when she moved back home again after getting married - but this time to movie producer Parker Stevenson - where they had two children together: William True (born October 7th 1978) and Lillie Price (born December 3rd, 1981).
