Parenting Debate Ignites Over Mom's Decision to Let 9 Y/O Daughter Get Nose Pierced and Wear Makeup

A US Mom has responded after people from as far away as New Zealand slammed her parenting choices for allowing her nine-year-old daughter to get her nose pierced and wear dark eyeliner. This comes after the mother posted a video to TikTok of her child, which has received over 23 million views.

When Illinois Mom Meagan Black shared the video of her daughter, some users didn’t even believe it was real, commenting that the 28-year-old mother was “a bad mum.” Some even called it “fake.” According to the Daily Mail, a furious debate was sparked by viewers.

The laws of Illinois say that the mom did nothing wrong, however. Children under 18 can receive a piercing in the state as long as they have the consent of a parent or guardian. That’s where the judgment began.

TikTok viewers who opposed the piercing feel that the mother should never have consented to such and made their voices quite loud. Some even went so far as to insinuate that the child was being held hostage. Meagan has finally clapped back, according to MSN.

In a new video, Meagan panned the camera around to her daughters and said, “Okay, so my kid is not kidnapped. About the nose ring thing…she’s nine years old, okay. If she wants a (expletive) nose ring what is the big deal with that?” Incidentally, it turns out that Meagan is a “Daddy’s girl,” and her father also approves of the piercing.

Meagan explained that her daughter asked for the piercing and that she agreed. She did not convince her daughter to get one, but also did not try to stop her child from expressing herself with a non-permanent piece of jewelry. “So, can we all move on and laugh, because it was funny? I can’t even with this app!” she exclaimed.

So, what’s your opinion? Should the mother have allowed her nine-year-old to get her nose pierced and wear mascara? Should Daddy step in and say, “No?” Do you have an opinion on the subject, or feel this is none of anyone’s business? Tell us what you think in a comment!
